ATELIER DES MODISTES

Atelier Des Modistes

In June of 2018, I started my internship at Atelier Des Modistes as a seamstress and assistant designer. I was directly trained under the owner and designer Suzanne Hanley. I quickly became Suzannes lead assistant designer and assisted in all the hand done intricacies of making the gowns from patterning, hand/machine sewing, beading, hand painting and designing new laces and prints. I also helped style many of the photoshoots and executed hair & makeup.

The Ondine Gown

Entire placement and application of the applique was executed by me. Sue of course oversaw the entire process.

The Lulu Gown - All applique on the bodice was cut out from the embroidery and hand placed and sewn.

Guipure Lace Gown - Guipure lace hand cut and sewn by me, hiding all seams with meticulous blending of the lace and fine hand sewn stitches.

The gowns shown below include a hand painted satin organza layer painted by me. I also assisted placing and sewing much of the applique, beading, and 3d flowers.

Client Gown - Hand appliqued lace on entire bodice.

Aurora Gown - Lace applique, and hand made beaded 3D organza flowers I assisted in creating, placing and sewing onto the gown.

The Mariposa Gown

Butterfly lace with hand cut out and sewn 3D butterflies on both the gown and tule overskirt.

Mandala Gown

Custom hand beaded structured bodice with an ostrich feather skirt.

The Little Red Dress

This dress required more hand sewing and hand applique than what meets the eye. Sue and I stayed up all night until 5 am the next morning finishing this gorgeous dress in a rush to be picked up that morning. It is one of my favorite memories with my dearest Sue working shoulder to shoulder, to make this perfect elegant gown. By far one of my favorite designs from Sue. A night I learned so much and will never forget.
